Hello! My name is Ashley Appelman and this is my fifth year teaching the fourth grade at St. Bernard. I graduated from the University of North Texas in 2010 with a degree in Elementary Education. Aside from teaching, I enjoy watching movies, making cute crafts I find on Pinterest, hanging out with my friends and family, trying out new recipes, being outside, and shopping (of course!) I absolutely love St. Bernard and feel truly blessed to be part of such a wonderful community!
Philosophy of Education
My philosophy on education centers on a lively classroom environment where students are actively engaged in discussions, research, activities, and higher-level thinking. I believe children learn best in a safe, structured environment where they are inspired to embrace challenge and grow to develop a love of learning. I also believe all children are capable of learning, which is why I have high expectations for them in my classroom. With my guidance I expect them to become responsible, reliable, and well-rounded individuals as they grow throughout their education. I expect them to show kindness and respect towards one another by recognizing uniqueness and promoting confidence in each other. As a team, we work hard to be true examples in showing Jesus’ love for our peers, our families, and for our community.
