“Lord, may you bless the world, give health to our bodies and comfort our hearts. You ask us not to be afraid. Yet our faith is weak and we are fearful. But you, Lord, will not leave us at the mercy of the storm. Tell us again: “Do not be afraid” (Mt 28:5). And we, together with Peter, “Cast all our anxieties onto you, for you care about us” (1 Pet 5:7).”-Pope Francis
We are committed to the continued academic progress of each child’s grade level in their faith and in all core academic standards. SBS has created a Resource Gap Plan (RGP), utilizing resource teachers and specials teachers as necessary to help close gaps, all while staying on track to cover required grade-level standards. It is our goal to return students to their proper grade-level performance and mastery of concepts and skills by June 2021.
The school has also given thoughtful consideration to providing opportunities for school-wide Eucharistic celebrations, prayer, learning about and celebrating saints, and daily rituals. We will continue to integrate Catholic worldview and gospel values with content lessons. As a school community we will continue our Virtues in Practice program with weekly homeroom meetings and school wide focused studies/activities. This is the Year of Hope and we are committed to nurturing every student’s faith and relationship with Christ.
In order to make sure all our students, parents, and teachers are comfortable with the new rules we are modifying the school calendar for the first two weeks of school. Our new start date is Sept. 02, 2020.
Our first few weeks of school will be dedicated to the instruction of appropriate hygiene practices, new procedures inside and outside of the classroom, the social and emotional health of our community, identifying instructional gaps and setting targeted learning goals for the new 2020-2021 school year.
Yes! It is vital for us to plan ahead in the event of unforseen circumstances. Our distance learning model will be made available for planned or unplanned shutdowns and it will allow students to remain enrolled in SBS with all the benefits and support available. We are committed to delivering a high-quality education for our students in a number of ways. Distance learning for those who choose this option will commence on Sept. 8, 2020.
Based on recommendations from the Diocese of Dallas Catholic Schools Office (CSO), St. Bernard will start In-Person Learning on September 2 and Distance Learning on September 8. Students returning to campus will follow a two-week phase in calendar provided by the CSO. The purpose of this modified schedule is to allow students, faculty and staff adequate time to practice new routines in a more restricted health-conscious environment with a special emphasis on daily screening, arrival/dismissal, passing periods, lunch protocols, and social distancing in the classroom and on the campus.

All students, faculty, and staff in addition to being screened on arrival to campus are strongly encouraged to self-screen daily to ensure they are free of the COVID-19. Anyone experiencing any of the COVID-19 symptoms listed below should STAY HOME.
We will send the following yes/no question weekly through an online survey, “Is your child currently symptomatic for COVID-19?” You must fill out the survey for each child before arriving to school on Monday morning. Contact the school immediately if your child or anyone in your household has become symptomatic after your weekly survey.
